The international press highlighted Rio 2016’s presentation of 27 March, at SportAcccord, which took place in Denver, Colorado, in the United States, from 23 to 27 March. Rio de Janeiro was the only city applauded before the end of the presentation. This occurred when Carlos Arthur Nuzman, president of Rio 2016, showed a map of past Olympic cities, in which South America was blank.

Website GamesBids.com, which specializes in Olympic Games, chose the headline “Rio's Olympic Bid Presentation Wins The Day At SportAccord” for an article evaluating the four candidate cities’ presentations. The article said that Rio de Janeiro won the hearts of delegates, and also highlighted the strong applause received when Nuzman showed the map. The article also emphasized the city’s television friendly time zone and its complete, honest and realistic budget. Rio’s success in hosting the 2007 Pan American and Parapan American Games was also mentioned.

Rio’s presentation was rated the best by website Around the Rings, which also specializes in the Olympic Games. The site’s article also highlighted the delegates’ applause of Rio’s presentation, which was said to be the most emphatic of the four presentations.

Rio’s financial guarantees were also mentioned in the article. According to the site, the presentation conveyed a clear message that Brazil possesses a solid economy to hold the 2016 Games, and that the 2007 Pan American Games left a strong sports infrastructure in Rio. The article also stated that the Brazilian presentation had the best arguments to justify its Olympic bid.

News agency Associated Press also emphasized Rio 2016’s presentation in its coverage of SportAccord. The article noted that the countries of the cities competing for the Games have already hosted 14 editions of the Olympic Games, including the Winter Games. Rio’s realistic budget, in harmony with that of the London 2012 Games, South America’s 400 million youthful people, and the legacy of the Pan Am Games were also mentioned as advantages.

The Universal Sports blog also rated Rio de Janeiro’s presentation as the best at SportAccord. The passion shown by Rio 2016 representatives was highlighted by the author, as well as the support of the three levels of government for the bid.
