Rio 2016™ announces Nissan as the first sponsor of the Paralympic Games in Rio

After selection Nissan do Brasil as a sponsor of the Rio 2016™ Olympic Games, the Rio 2016™ Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games announces the company as a commercial partner of the Rio 2016™ Paralympic Games, in the Automotive category, and of the Brazilian Paralympic Committee.

The partnership includes the provision of more than 2,000 Nissan do Brasil vehicles that specifically meet the needs of the Rio 2016™ Paralympic Games. Of this total, 270 units will be adapted to carry handicapped and other people with special needs - 150 units will be prepared to carry a single chair and other 120 to carry two chairs. Nissan’s models are not defined yet, but there will be sedans, SUVs, pickups, vans and minivans.

"Having Nissan do Brasil as the first sponsor of the Rio 2016™ Paralympic Games is to start a partnership that has as its main link the convergence of philosophies. With Nissan's experience in providing mobility to handicapped, through their adapted vehicles, we can give athletes more autonomy until the Rio de Janeiro Games,” says Andrew Parsons, president of the Brazilian Paralympic Committee.

"It is highly gratifying to see that a company like Nissan, which is already a partner of the Rio 2016™ Olympic Games, sees Paralympic Games with equal importance and is committed to help us deliver the Games with excellence and to promote the Paralympic and Olympic sports in Brazil and in South America," said Nuzman, president of Rio 2016 ™.

Like the 4,500 vehicles that Nissan will deliver to the Olympic Games in 2016, the 2,000 units for the Paralympic Games prioritize clean energy (ethanol or electricity), which reaffirms the goal of the Rio 2016™ to achieve the sustainability goals of the Games. Nissan's sponsorship, however, starts this year with the company providing vehicles to the Brazilian Paralympic Committee and its athletes during the Paralympics Games in London, which occur between August and September.

"Our commitment to Brazil goes beyond increasing our operation in the automotive industry, because we want to add to the country’s solid opportunities for socio-economic development. By sponsoring the Rio 2016™ Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, we have as main objective to provide mobility for all, besides providing the cleanest fleet in the history of the Olympics. After all, as well as athletes, Nissan is also bold and driven by challenges,” says president of Nissan do Brasil Christian Meunier.

In addition to the sponsorship of the Rio 2016™ Olympic and Paralympic Games, Nissan is committed to promote legacy programs that seek to create a lasting and positive social impact plus comprehensive marketing programs designed to spread the Olympic experience throughout Brazil. Among them is the incentive program for young athletes who will compete and represent the country at the Rio 2016™ Olympic and Paralympic Games.

To support excellence in operation of the Games, Nissan will also provide services such as driver training and logistics solutions that meet the complexity of the event.
