The Winning Beyond 2012 Conference gathered the leading British corporations in Manchester, England, to present the investment opportunities afforded by international sporting events. Mario Cilenti, Rio 2007 Organizing Committee Undersecretary of Operations was one of the keynote speakers. This Conference, held on April 1 and 2, was designed based on the United Kingdom experience in candidacies and delivery of large competitions, like the Commonwealth Games Manchester 2002, the Olympic Games London 2012 and the Commonwealth Games Glasgow 2014 (Scotland).
Mario Cilenti talked to more than 100 international organizations and investors about Rio 2007 success history. The chief infrastructure projects developed for the Pan American Games, event legacy and the fast pace of Brazils economic growth were some of the subjects approached to describe the large investment opportunities offered by the projects that are now being developed in the country. "The interest in doing business in Rio and Brazil was incredible, once the audience was well aware of Brazilian economy marked growth. Several British companies are already looking for information about the upcoming events", Mario Cilenti commented.
Rio 2007 was rated as the largest and more successful of all Pan American Games in history and has established a new event staging standard in Brazil, opening new markets for international corporations. The next key events in Brazil, such as the Futsal World Cup, Military Games, 2014 FIFA World Cup and Rios bid for 2016 were subjects of significant interest to participating organizations.
The United Kingdom Trade and Investment Department is planning a trip to Brazil in the near future to consolidate partnership opportunities with government authorities, the Brazilian Olympic Committee and private sector companies interested in future projects.
Numerous sport industry professionals of international repute like Simon Clegg, British Olympic Association CEO, Dmitry Chernyshenko, President of the Sochi 2014 Winter Games and Sir Keith Mills, London 2012's deputy chairman, were among the participants of the panel about Rio 2007 success history. "The Conference provided a unique opportunity of presenting Brazils potential in the event industry and attracting foreign investments to future competitions in the country", concluded Mario Cilenti.
