Argentinian Juan Martin del Potro, ranked 141st in the world, will face world no.2 Andy Murray in the tennis gold medal match, after he knocked-out the Beijing 2008 Olympic champion Rafa Nadal in a thrilling semi-final upset at the Olympic Tennis Centre in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday.
Having dumped out world no.1 Novak Djokovic in the first round, del Potro is having a dream tournament, and can now look forward to facing the no.2 seed Andy Murray on Sunday at 3pm.
Nadal was bidding for an unprecedented second Olympic singles gold medal, but his quest ended, as del Potro, who earned a bronze for Argentina four years ago, stunned the third-seed 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (5).
On Friday, Rafael Nadal and Marc Lopez won the Rio 2016 men's doubles title, and Nadal stands with Chile's Nicolas Massu as the only man to have won Olympic gold in both the doubles and singles events.

With some fierce forehands in his locker, del Potro will now set his sights on a third upset on Sunday (14 August), against defending champion Murray in the final. In the first semi-final earlier on Saturday, Andy Murray moved a step closer to becoming the first tennis player with consecutive Olympic singles gold medals.

The no.2 seeded Murray earned a gold in singles and a silver in mixed doubles for Britain at London in 2012.
Murray moved into the final by easily beating Kei Nishikori of Japan 6-1, 6-4, stretching his winning streak to a career-high-tying 17 matches. No tennis player has won two Olympic singles golds, let alone two in a row.
