Presidente Lula entitles Rio 2006 Games security personel to additional benefits

By Rio 2016

To qualify for the “Olympic Scholarship” civil and military police officers, firemen and municipal guards will be required to attend human rights, security and citizenship training courses

With the purpose of supporting training and qualification of the security and law enforcement personnel to be deployed for 2016 Games, on Tuesday, January 26, a decree was signed by president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva establishing the “Olympic Scholarship”. As of June 2010, civil and military police officers, firemen and city guards will be entitled to a bonus of up to R$ 1.200. At least once a year, all law enforcement personnel granted the benefit will be required to attend free courses offered by the National Public Security Secretariat. Such courses will cover subjects like community law enforcement, education for transit, human rights and crisis management. “The federal administration faces, takes part in and is tuned to public security issues. The Olympic Scholarship has an extraordinary value, which is not limited to its financial aspect. Security means citizenship”, Rio´s governor Sérgio Cabral commented.
