In addition to the legacy left to Rio de Janeiro's security - resulting from the acquisition of vehicles, communication systems and other equipment -, the Pan American Games have also yielded dividends to the state's health. Rio's State Office of Health has taken delivery of 60 ambulances purchased with federal budget funds to support the services provided to city dwellers and tourists during the games.
With 20 additional vehicles received from the Ministry of Health, SAMU (Mobile First-Aid Service) and the Fire Department First-Aid Brigade now count on a fleet of 152 ambulances.
As far as security is concerned, the Federal Government transferred on November 13 500 vehicles to the State Government; nearly 1,400 arms; 120 thousand units of ammunition; expert investigation materials; computer-aided information management system; and communication equipment, including encrypted radio sets and security cameras.
Used during the Pan American Games, the security equipment transferred to Rio Administration is estimated at R$ 132 million.
