The International Paralympic Committee was impressed by the rhythm of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games organization. This Saturday, May 22nd, during the closing of the Orientation Seminar organized by the entity, IPC Executive Director Xavier Gonzalez complimented the work done during the last seven months by the Organization Committee for the Rio 2016 Games, the Brazilian Paralympic Committee and all three levels of government.
This seminar offered a good opportunity to discuss specific Paralympic Games issues. It was important to know that, since the beginning, the Rio 2016 Committee has been preoccupied with the event. There is still much work to be done, but the Games will be a great opportunity for Rio de Janeiro. The Parapan-American Games Rio 2007 left an excellent foundation, said Xavier Gonzalez.
During the Orientation Seminar were discussed questions such as accessibility, social inclusion and production and development of the Paralympic brand. The Rio 2016 Committee presented its structure, objectives and specific strategies for the competition. This event was fundamental due to the depth of the questions that were examined and the orientation given by IPC. It is important that everyone follows the same philosophy and walks in the same direction, said Rio 2016 Committee President Carlos Arthur Nuzman, who suggested to IPC the realization of a specific seminar concerning accessibility.
For Paralympic Brazilian Committee President Andrew Parsons, the event helped to understand the differences and similarities between the Olympic and Paralympic Games. We know the huge potential for transformation that the Paralympic Games have. The level of presentations at the Seminar was very high and we got through an important stage in the organizational process, explained Andrew Parsons.
