Speaker of the Global Sports Forum, international meeting held last week in Barcelona, Spain, the President of the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee, Carlos Arthur Nuzman, showed that he is honoured to lead the first edition of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in South America and sure of the transformation that the greatest sport event in the world will bring to his hometown, Rio de Janeiro.
"My dream is to make Rio an example of a city which can change thanks to the Games. Today it helps youth wanting to be involved, either in the organization or as an athlete. Finally, I hope that this event will give the world the desire to discover our city and our country. "
For an audience of authorities, specialists in sports, former athletes and fans of sport, Nuzman gave his testimony about the challenges and improvements required to receive such a huge event.
"We wanted to avoid all the sites being too close, so we decided to organize four. Our biggest challenge was transport. The state of Rio will improve two subway lines to cross the mountains. The City Council will take care of setting up four bus lines with a high level of services. Finally, we must improve all our airports."
“Our other commitment is safety. But to do so, the Public Secretary State of Security in Rio de Janeiro has already created a peacemaker unit, which since 2009 has worked in the favelas to ensure Olympic security."
The event of this year counted on other personalities from the world of sports such as Jonah Lomu (player of the legendary New Zealand Rugby team), Oscar Pistorius (Paralympic champion of Athletics), Raï Viera de Oliveira (former Football player of the Brazilian team and President Founder of Gol de Letra) and Dmitry Chernyshenko (President of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee), that talked about the future of athletes and the next events organized in the world of sports.
