“My Paralympic picture” cultural contest unveils winning photos

From 5 to 31 October, the twenty finalists of “My Paralympic picture” cultural contest were available for voting on our website. After twenty days, there have been counted 23,953 votes, of which 21,544 were won by the four champions (Check out the story of each winning photo).

“Light of hope”, the photo with more votes – 10,367 – was sent by a Diathlon Paralympic athlete from Joaçaba, state of Santa Catarina, Brazil’s south region.

“After I became a handicapped person, the world has faded away for me. A ray of light has lighted when I met the adapted sport. It made me track a large road, so far unknown by me. This sun is my ray of hope, the light that makes me keep on this movement, somewhat lonely.”

The second place came from Pindamonhangaba, state of São Paulo. Showing a mountain bike athlete practicing his sport, the photo “Focusing on obstacles” gained 5,816 votes.

“Although there are competitions and qualifying stages, we can never compare the individual difficulties. What really matters is our effort to get where we got. Because the true winners are the ones who compete with themselves and never accept being defeated!”

With 3,153 votes, “Contagious smile” expresses the joy of a Swimming Paralympic athlete: “Nothing is impossible in the Paralympic Movement. The happiness of Dayanne Silva!”

From Joinville, state of Santa Catarina, the photo “Overcoming” received 2,208 votes! The photo depicts a Basketball player shooting the ball into the basket, and it “expresses an extraordinary capacity of overcoming the obstacles between the mind and the body”.
