Mineirão Stadium is ready to get back to football

Venue of the Rio 2016™ was reopened last Friday (Rio 2016™)

Renewed for the FIFA World Cup in 2014, the Mineirão Stadium in Belo Horizonte is ready to host again matches of the most popular sport in Brazil. Stage of great duels in its history, the traditional stadium was closed for works for two and a half years. As planned, it was reopened last Friday, will receive the Confederations Cup matches in 2013 and, in 2016, is one of four stadiums outside of Rio de Janeiro to get the football in the Olympics. The other three partner cities are Brasília, São Paulo and Salvador.

Thanks to the renovation, the stadium counts 64 thousand seats, 90 box seats, a restaurant with a view of the field and VIP area lounges.  The parking area counts 2.8 thousand spaces and the press area has a 3 thousand journalist capacity.

Now, the stadium has an esplanade, an 80 thousand m2 outdoor area with a 65 thousand person capacity around the stadium.  It will be one of the great public spaces in Belo Horizonte, a suspended park with seven thousand m2 for commercial activities, with restaurants, bars and shops.

Among the amenities of the New Mineirão is the roof equipped with technology to capture solar energy and transform it into electricity. In addition, rainwater can be reused, as the stadium counts with a six million litre reservoir, able to supply part of the Mineirão for three months.
