In the morning of Tuesday, the 7th, representatives of 27 out of 30 Brazilian Olympic Confederations met at the Organising Committee for the Rio 2016™ Olympic and Paralympic Games’ new headquarters, in Cidade Nova neighbourhood. It was the first time the meeting took place in the Rio 2016™ building as the meeting is usually held in the offices of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB in Portuguese), in Barra da Tijuca neighbourhood. It was also the inaugural meeting of the new auditorium.
The Executive Director of Sports, Agberto Guimarães, presented the Olympic Project details to all attendees. Among the relevant topics presented were: Legacy, Competition Leader Recruitment, Test Events, Refereeing as well as Volunteers who specialise in each sport.
He answered a few questions and reminded that each sport has different requirements. “We have three years to go before the start of the Games. Ideas to promote the athletes as well as sport will be assessed and may still be used”, he said.
The President of the Brazilian Badminton Confederation, Francisco Ferraz, thought the meeting was profitable. “This is the moment for clarifications and enriching the knowledge on the Olympic Games Project. The legacy expectations, the infrastructure and the information on refereeing; it was an important meeting”, Ferraz said.
Before the meeting started, the Presidents and Representatives of the Confederations visited the new Committee’s headquarters. COB President, Carlos Arthur Nuzman, together with Venues Director, Luiz Henrique Ferreira, showed the three-floored building to the visitors. All COB Directors and General Managers attended the meeting as well.
