The contract for Manaus to stage six football matches during the Rio 2016 Olympic Games  was signed on Thursday (6 August) by Amazonas state governor José Melo and city mayor Arthur Neto at the iconic Amazonas Theatre. The official confirmation means the process of recruiting volunteers to work at the stadium can begin.

Manaus will host four men's and two women's matches that will take place on 4, 7 and 9 August 2016 at the Amazônia Arena, which hosted four matches during 2014 World Cup. There will be two 'Live Sites' – in  Ponta Negra and Largo São Sebastião – for fans without tickets to watch the matches.

Rio 2016 will select volunteers to work at the stadium, training venues, airport and hotels. Volunteers will work in nine areas: customer services, operational support, ceremonies production, transport, sports, health services, media and communications, protocol and languages ​​and technology. Applications for volunteer roles opened on Thursday and will close on September 13. Click here to find out more. There will also be a volunteer programme run by the Manaus city government, aimed specifically at recruiting local people.

The Rio 2016 education programme, Transforma, will also work with the state and city governments to promote new sports and the Olympic and Paralympic values in 100 local public schools. Transforma will also run eight festivals in Manaus to promote Olympic and Paralympic sports that are uncommon in Brazil, such as badminton and goalball.
