Until the beginning of Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Rio’s city centre will start to count on a new and modern public transportation option, which will provide more comfort to the users and reduce the time of the journey The Light Rail Transit, LRT, will be able to connect the other means of transportation and will make the quantity of buses decrease in the region.

Each unit of the new tram will accommodate 450 passengers. Six lines will operate in 52 kilometers. Before the 2014 World Cup, two lines will be active. In the following year, for the celebration of 450 years of the city, two more lines will be unveiled. The LRT will be finished by the beginning of Rio 2016™ Olympic and Paralympic Games.
