‘It’s time to focus on work and engagement,’ says Rio 2016 Organising Committee
Organisation highlights recent progress and reiterates commitment to stage first Games in South America with excellence
The Rio 2016 Organising Committee today (April 29) highlighted the recent progress made in the preparations for the first Olympic and Paralympic Games in South America. In an official statement given to media, the committee pointed to two government announcements made this month – the presentation of the budget for infrastructure and legacy projects, and the launch of the tender process for the Deodoro Olympic Park venues – as examples of crucial developments.
“It is time for us to focus on the work to be done and on engaging with society. The recent announcement of the budget for infrastructure and legacy projects, in addition to the launch of the tender process for the Deodoro Olympic Park venues, were crucial developments and unequivocal signs of progress,” said the statement.
The statement also highlighted the integrated nature of the work being undertaken in partnership with the federal, state and city governments, along with the crucial support of the International Olympic Committee, and reaffirmed Rio’s commitment to delivering excellent Games.
“We have a historic mission: to organise the first Olympic and Paralympic Games in Brazil and in South America. We are going to achieve this. In 2016, Rio will host excellent Games that will be delivered absolutely within the agreed timelines and budgets,” said the statement.
