IOC to hold orientation seminar for Rio 2016 Games
First meeting in Rio will be attended by seven IOC representatives

Tomorrow and on Saturday, at the Copacabana Palace Hotel in Rio, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will hold an orientation seminar for the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee, representatives of the three levels of government, the Brazilian Olympic Committee and the Brazilian Paralympic Committee. The seminar will be the first work meeting in Rio to begin organizing the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games and will be attended by seven IOC representatives, including Switzerland-born Gilbert Felli, the executive director of the Olympic Games.
The meeting will also be attended by the IOCs longest-serving member, João Havelange, the president of the Rio 2016 Organizing Committee, Carlos Arthur Nuzman, Rio 2016s secretary general, Carlos Roberto Osório, sports minister, Orlando Silva, Governor Sérgio Cabral and Mayor Eduardo Paes. Others attending the seminar include the sports ministrys national secretary for elite sport, Ricardo Leyser, Rio state secretary for sport, tourism and leisure, Márcia Lins, the special secretary for 2014 and 2016, Ruy Cezar, and other state and municipal secretaries, as well as representatives of ministries and public organizations involved in organizing the Games.
In addition to Gilbert Felli, the IOC committee will be made up of Timo Lumme, director of television and marketing services; Christophe Dubi, director of sports; Antony Scanlon, head of Olympic Games coordination, services and operations; Jennifer OBrien, Olympic Games coordination project manager; Robert Roxburgh, head of communications; and Toshio Tsurunaga, manager of IOC services for National Olympic Committees.
The seminar is aimed at providing the IOCs initial guidance on organizing the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We began our work whilst still in Copenhagen (Denmark), less than 24 hours after Rio was declared the host city. This meeting will be important to establish our next steps and further integrate all those involved in the process of organizing the Games, aligning our efforts, said Carlos Arthur Nuzman.
