IOC to announce Olympic Games 2016 candidate cities on wednesday june 4

By Rio 2016

On June 4, 2008, the International Olympic Committee will announce the Candidate Cities for the Olympic Games to be held in 2016. The announcement will be made in Athens, Greece, at 12:30 pm (Brasilia time) by IOC president Jacques Rogge. The decision will be based on the analyses of the questionnaires submitted by the applicant cities in January.

The Brazilian delegation attending the announcement in Athens includes the Minister of Sport Orlando Silva Junior, the governor of the state of Rio de Janeiro Sergio Cabral, the mayor of the City of Rio de Janeiro Cesar Maia and the president of the Brazilian Olympic Committee and president of Rio 2016 Committee Carlos Arthur Nuzman. FIFA honorary president and senior IOC member João Havelange will also be in Athens for the announcement.

The candidate cities will be required to prepare a candidacy dossier, detailing the Olympic project, to be submitted to the IOC in February 2009.   The host city of the 2016 Olympic Games will be elected during the IOC Congress in Copenhagen, Denmark, on October 2, 2009.

The announcement will be broadcast live through the International Olympic Committee internet site (www.olympic.org ).
