"The cities aspiring to host the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games prove the quality of the competition. They are important, high-level candidates that deserve our respect", states BOC President, Carlos Arthur Nuzman.
According to the candidacy process calendar, cities must present, by January 14, 2008, the answers to a questionnaire and other guarantees required by the International Olympic Committee. As of January, the IOC will analyze these documents and will define, June 3-5, 2008, in Athens (Greece), the cities that will become official candidates to host the event. The choice of the host city is scheduled to be announced in Copenhagen (Denmark) on October 2, 2009.
On Sep. 7, 2007, the Brazilian Olympic Committee submitted to IOC the documentation composed of a letter of introduction by the entity, a letter of registration and guarantee signed by both the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Cesar Maia, and the president of the Brazilian Olympic Committee, Carlos Arthur Nuzman; and letters of guarantee signed by both the President of Brazil, Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva, and the Governor of Rio de Janeiro State, Sergio Cabral.
