The 'Mobot' returns in dramatic style

Mo Farah tripped and fell down, then worked his way back to the front, lost the lead again in the last lap, regained it and turning into the finishing stretch, won the 10,000m title for the second Games consecutively. The London 2012 double gold medallist struck his his signature 'Mobot' pose as he crossed the line. Great Britain's track cyclists thrilled at the Olympic Velodrome on Saturday when the women set a world record in the team pursuit, improving the world-best they had set only hours before by two seconds. The quartet of Katie Archibald, Laura Trott, Elinor Barker and Joanna Rowsell-Shand rode 4000m at an average speed of 57.5 km/h to win the gold. The USA won silver and Canada took bronze.

And then there were four...

The men's football tournament semi-finals are now decided. After a shaky start, Brazil are among them, which makes the locals very happy indeed. Or just plain relieved. Brazil beat Colombia 2-0 to earn their place. So on Wednesday at 1pm, the hosts will play surprise package Honduras at the MaracanĂ£. Germany face Nigeria at the Corinthians Arena, Sao Paulo, at 4pm.

Stunning Lagoa inspires British rowers

The Rio 2016 Olympic Games rowing competition came to an end as Great Britain's third gold saw them top the medal table for the sport. Great Britain won gold in the men's eight to follow golds in the men's four and women's pair, and silvers in the women's eight and women's double sculls. British crews have now won the men's four at five consecutive Olympic Games.

Harting keeps it in the family

Discus thrower Christoph Harting of Germany produced a brilliant sixth and final attempt to usurp world champion Piotr Malachowski of Poland, to take the gold at the Olympic Stadium. It means the Olympic title stays in the Harting family, as his brother, defending champion Robert, failed to make the final. Harting threw 68.37m for a personal best, and snatched the title from the grasp of Malachowski, who had been in the lead with 67.55m.

Floyd steals the show

Despite members of the USA men's basketball team sitting a few rows behind him, retired American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jnr. was besieged by a stream of autograph-seekers and selfie-takers when he showed up to watch the welterweight quarter-finals on Saturday evening. Mayweather, a bronze medalist at the Atlanta 1996 Games, retired last year after a 49-0 career. Team GB's Joshua Buatsi was quick off the mark to get this snap.
