Maracanã Stadium will host the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Rio 2016™ Games. Additionally, Brazil's most famous stadium will also host football matches.

The stadium's seating area is ready and its renovation works are expected to be completed by February 2013. One of the differences, once the works are concluded, is that the seating area will be closer to the pitch.

In 2013 and 2014, the stadium will also host two other great sporting events, the World Cup and the Confederations Cup.
