By Rio 2016

The Brazilian city chosen to be the headquarters of the 2016 Olympic Games in October, was ranked at 8th among the 100 places analyzed by Sportcal

Rio de Janeiro is among the ten cities that stood out in the sports scene in 2009. The ranking was prepared by the website, Sportcal, which specializes in sports marketing. Chosen in October, as the headquarters for the 2016 Olympic Games, the Brazilian city ranked 8th on the list. Among the countries, Brazil is in 9th place. To prepare the ranking, the website analyzed more than 100 cities from 50 different countries, taking into consideration the ability to attract high ranking sporting events. Besides winning the dispute to become the host city for the 2016 Olympic Games, Rio de Janeiro received in 2009 international competitions such as the Volleyball Grand Prix, the Modern Pentathlon World Cup, the Judo Grand Slam and the Equestrian Global Champions Tour. The first place in the Sportcal cities ranking went to Berlin which hosted the Athletics World Championship in 2009. Germany was also number 1 among the list of countries.
