English company announces investment in Rio's naval sector

By Governo do Estado do Rio

Rolls Royce is another multinational company that has decided to invest in Rio de Janeiro's metropolitan area. The company will generate over 100 direct jobs at a factory for repairing parts of large ships in the Niterói area. The initial investment is estimated at R$ 15 million.

According to Rio de Janeiro's Employment and Income state secretary, Alcebíades Sabino, no other Brazilian state has so many major projects in progress. Some of these projects are: the Itaboraí Petrochemical Complex (Comperj), the Atlantic Steel Company (CSA), a Resende-based Votorantim steel company, the Steel Complex, and investments in oil exploration and production, in addition to the Duque de Caxias-based Chemical Gas Complex, at Baixada Fluminense.

"We've ended July with the country's lowest unemployment rate and a significant fall over the same period the year before. The income of employed people is about R$ 1,121 - higher than the national average - which is equivalent to R$ 1,108.30", Sabino states.
