The National Shooting Center, which hosted Rio 2007 Pan American Games, represents Brazil in the 6th Spanish-American Biennial Fair of Architecture and Town Planning (BIAU 08) to be held in Lisboa, from April 28th to May 02nd. This place is part of the Deodoro Sports Complex which includes other four major venues.

The project, designed by BCMF Arquitetos Office, from the city of Belo Horizonte, competes for Built Projects Award, in the “Young Author” category. The nominee list is composed of 35 venues, but, more than 200 participated in the first stage.  To participate in this edition, the project is required to have been completed between 2004 and 2006.

According to Bruno Campos, BCMF’s architect, the architecture needed to meet the special requirements of the event and also after the event, including possible changes in the use, offering flexibility in how the places can be used, as well as clearly standing out in the context of natural and urban landscapes. “The Shooting Center is the Complex’s major venue due to its dimensions and privileged implementation,” says Bruno Campos.

The Federal Government (Ministry of Sports) funded the R$ 119.8-million construction of the Complex, which represents Brazil together with seven other projects. Other fourteen countries/regions participate in the event which aims at discussing the possible convergence of architecture progress and environmentally and socially responsible urban areas.

BCMF Arquitetos is composed of Bruno Campos (Architect), Marcelo Fontes, Silvio Todeschi and team. Engesolo (Ângela Maurizi) carried out the Management and General Coordination of the Basic project and John Baker and CO-RIO Team designed the Overlay (structures, equipment and facilities that were taken down after the event).
