Want to play a part in the opening and closing ceremonies of the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games at the legendary Maracanã Stadium? There are more than 10,000 roles for volunteers and the deadline to apply has been extended to 30 September 2015.

Rio 2016 is looking for volunteers –  from all over the world –  who like activities such as skateboarding, roller skating, juggling, percussion and acrobatics. It is not necessary to have artistic experience and people of any nationality can apply here. (Applicants must be at least 16 years old on 1 April 2016.)

“It is a tradition within the Olympic Movement that volunteers provide the backbone of the opening and closing ceremonies,” said Rio 2016’s ceremonies director Leonardo Caetano. “Volunteers are not only going to watch the ceremonies, they are going to play a part in them.”

Auditions are due to begin in November. For selected candidates, rehearsals will begin in April 2016.

The Olympic Games opening ceremony will take place on 5 August 2016, with the closing ceremony on 21 August 2016. The Paralympic Games opening ceremony will take place on 7 September 2016, with the closing ceremony on 18 September 2016.
