With the arrival of Fashion Rio, which takes place on 6-9 November in Pier Mauá, the Olympic capital opens the door to a real invasion of new trends and styles. As sport cannot be left out, we list some Olympians and Paralympians who decided to take a chance on the catwalks.
Paracanoeist Fernando Fernandes was already an icon long before venturing out in the white waters of Canoe Slalom. The model-turned-athlete’s story shows that sport has a lot more in common with the world of fashion than you think.

Some people are such trendsetters that they ended up in the limelight of the fashionistas on duty. From there to a modelling career all it takes is one more step ... Isn't that right, Neymar?

Another Football player who started to attract attention both inside and outside the pitch, and today is one of the most requested models to star in promotional campaigns, is striker Cristiano Ronaldo. Moreover, the idol has just launched his own underwear line.

But probably one of the most successful players in the transition from the pitch to the catwalks is British David Beckham, who today dedicates himself entirely to the job together with his wife Victoria.

Swimming is another sport that, from time to time, launches a new name that makes it to the cover of magazines. Brazilian Cesar Cielo is one those swimmers who, since the beginning of his career, has already been appointed as the face of several national and international brands.

One who follows in the Brazilian's footsteps is Matt Targett, the Australian swimmer who took the world by surprise when he won a silver and a bronze medal in his debut in the Beijing 2008 Games. Little more than a year in the hallways of fashion, the swimmer has come to admit that the artistic career is his second profession.

Aimée Mullins, the muse of Paralympic Athletics, went beyond sport and today pursues a career in modelling and acting.

The unique style of Basketball players, most of them over 1.90m tall, has already influenced many people. One of the forerunners of this trend is none other than Michael Jordan. Besides starring in several campaigns while he was still an active player, he recently launched Nike’s Air Jordan shoes line.

Wheneverconversations are about women on the catwalk, Tennis cannot be beaten. The Williams sisters, Ana Ivanovic, Maria Sharapova and Anna Kournikova are but a few examples of beauties who, from time to time, dictate the next fashion trends.

Among Tennis players however, Maria Sharapova finds herself on top of the ranking of players with most appearances in advertising campaigns.

Speaking of female sports stars who have taken the world by storm because of their beauty, you can't help but talk about sisters Branca and Bianca Ferres, both synchronized swimmers, don’t you agree?

Brazilian Volleyball has also revealed some new talents outside the courts, for the joy of the fans. Straight from Brazil National Team to the world of fashion, Bruninho and Jaqueline Carvalho invested in the career of “poster boys”.

The two-time Olympic Volleyball champion, even participated in a photo session with none other than Brazilian top model and dedicated sports fan Gisele Bündchen.

One of the best volleyball players in the world, Italian Francesca Piccini also leads her sport among athletes who chose to follow a career in modelling.
