Rio 2016 committee explains city’s Olympic plans to Tourism and Sports Commission

Chamber of Deputies reiterates support for Rio 2016
This Wednesday, in Brasília, the Rio de Janeiro bid committee to host the 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games described the city’s Olympic plans in a general meeting of the Chamber of Deputy’s Tourism and Sports Commission.

The presentation was enthusiastically applauded by deputies, who reiterated their full support for the Rio 2016 campaign. After the meeting, Carlos Arthur Nuzman, president of Rio 2016, and Carlos Roberto Osório, Rio 2016’s secretary general, met with the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Michel Temer.

During the two-hour presentation, Nuzman and Osório gave details of the bid to the Tourism and Sports Commission. “It was a great opportunity to update deputies about the Rio 2016 campaign’s progress. One of the pillars of the bid is the union between the three levels of government, and the support of the Legislature is fundamental,” said Nuzman.

President of the Tourism and Sports Commission, Federal Deputy Afonso Hamm accompanied President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva during the IOC Evaluation Commission’s visit to Rio, from 27 April to 3 May.

“This is a project for the entire country, not just for Rio de Janeiro. Brazil has the capacity to hold the Olympic Games and the event will be an excellent opportunity to strengthen the country on the international stage,” said Hamm.
