One day before the first phase of applications for tickets to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games closes for residents of Brazil, the organising committee has confirmed that it has so far received requests for 4.4 million tickets.
“We have received thousands of applications from each state in Brazil and this demonstrates that the whole country is full of enthusiasm to take part in the Olympic Games,” said Rio 2016 president Carlos Nuzman. “Every spectator at the Games will have, without doubt, an unforgettable experience.”
While Brazilian residents must complete their applications by Wednesday (6 May), overseas fans should enter into contact with the authorised ticket reseller (ATR) in their territory. Click here to see the list of ATRs.
As well as the 4.4 million completed ticket requests, Rio 2016 said another one million requests have been saved in virtual trolleys on the ticketing portal, ready to be sent before the deadline. Only fans who enter the first draw will be able to participate in the second draw, which opens in July.
Volleyball continues to be the most sought-after sport among Brazilian fans, with tickets for the men’s final the most contested of all. Up to now, there have been 220 applications for each ticket available for the big game, which will take place at the Maracanãzinho Arena on 21 August 2016.
