Karol Conka is a 29-year-old Brazilian rapper, singer and songwriter. She was born on 1 Jan , 1987 as Karoline of Santos de Oliveria, but later adopted 'Karol Conka' as a stage name. The 27-year-old will be the 11th perforrmer at Friday's opening ceremony of the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
Conka is a native Brazilian, born in Curitiba in 1987. She has become one of Brazil's most famous female rappers, and released her first album, Batuk Freak, in 2013.
The album can be listened to here. It helped her win Brazil's Multishow Best New Artist award in 2013.
Conka's music focuses on women's empowerment. Her music is generally set to a happier tune that is perfect for dancing.
"We have excellent MCs and beat makers with a growing space to show their work," Conka told Rolling Stone in April 2014. "In this scenario, I situate myself in a position where I sing about joy; my protest is against sadness. I always try to sing about self-esteem and respect with festive and danceable beats...batuque is a term generally used to designate beat. 'Batuk' is a 'karolish' version for this work."
Conka will perform a new song about empowerwent with 12-year-old rapper MC Soffia. Expect the new song to be inspiring, and fit in with the Brazilian theme of the opening ceremony.
