Monday 6 October sees the start of the Brazilian Olympic Committees first Training Camp, a course for 9 to 18 year old athletes with identified high potential. The pioneering project, sponsored by the International Olympic Committees Olympic Solidarity Program, involves synchronized swimming, triathlon, judo and wrestling. The Maria Lenk Aquatic Park, one of the legacies of the Rio 2007 Pan American Games, is hosting the event, which runs until 12 October.
The Training Camp is a part of the 2012 Olympic Solidarity program, which enables young, promising athletes to benefit from high-level training, in order to improve their performance and motivation. The event will include talks and workshops given by established athletes, coaches and other specialists.
The Training Camp aims to impart values and knowledge, boost motivation and promote interaction among athletes and trainers of different disciplines. This first Camp will provide a template for organizing future ones across Brazil. There will be both general and sport-specific activities, led by athletes, trainers and technicians. Presentation topics will include Olympism, nutrition, sports psychology, prevention of doping and talent spotting; there will also be practical workshops and training clinics.
Athletes and trainers who are participating include triathlon athlete Sandra Soldan, diver Cassius Duran, swimmer Luiz Lima, Brazilian female judo coach Rosicléia Campos, wrestler Antoine Jaoude, synchronized swimmer Lara Teixeira, and Olympic judo medalist Flávio Canto.
