Pan American Games Committee Representatives hold two-day seminar in Colombia
The city of Medellin Colombia will be hosting the IX South American Games in 2010, and after attending the Rio 2007 Transfer of Knowledge Seminar hosted in Rio de Janeiro last March, the Organizing Committee requested the possibility of conducting a more thorough transfer of knowledge program with the Local Organizing Committee. In the spirit of sharing the best practices and experiences gained from the Pan American Games, Mario Cilenti, COO of the Rio 2007 Organizing Committee and Andres Cardenas Manager responsible for Central Planning for Rio 2007, held a two day Seminar with staff of the Medellin 2010 organizing Committee as well as other key partners involved in the Organization of the South American Games including participants of all three levels of Government, National and local Sports Federations as well as the Colombian Olympic Committee officials. Over 150 people attended the seminar, which focused on the key elements of the planning and preparation necessary to host a mutli-sport regional event, including the planning phases, the evolution and growth of the Organizing Committee as well as the vital importance of government partnership and integration.
- The possibility of hearing first hand experience from a recent successful event like the Pan American Games will help our Organizing Committee and Governments understand the complexities involved in organizing our Games - said Mauricio Pinzon Boter, Director of Sport of the Medellin 2010 Organizing Committee.
The seminar was closed with the Participation of Carlos Nuzman, and Carlos Roberto Osorio President and Secretary General respectively of the Rio 2007 Pan American Games Organizing Committee when President Nuzman reinforced the message of partnerships and integration as well as highlighted the legacies in the areas such as sport, infrastructure, social inclusion and education left in Rio and Brazil after the Pan American Games.
- The possibility of sharing the wealth of knowledge and experience we have obtained and documented from the 5 years of planning for the Pan American Games is something that the Brazilian Olympic Committee is committed to share amongst other regional games throughout the Americas and the World, adhering to the spirit of solidarity and partnership amongst NOCs - commented Nuzman.
