The Rio 2016 Olympic Torch Relay is celebrating this Friday (1 July) the 60th day of its journey around Brazil. In the last two months, the torch has visited 180 towns across this giant country, travelled 17,000km (more than 10,500 miles) by land, air and water, and been carried by more than 7,000 torchbearers.

Wherever it has been, Brazilians have greeted this iconic symbol of the Olympic movement with all the warmth and joy for which they are celebrated around the world. And the relay has shone a light on the enchanting diversity of this most multicultural of nations.
