Belgain couple Rosine Roland and Christian D'Archour have become a staple feature at the Olympic Games. This year at Rio 2016 is no different.
Roland first competed in the canoe slalom in the Munich 1972 Olympic Games with D'Archour in tow, providing loyal support Since then, they've been to 10 Summer and Winter Olympic Games, including Rio 2016. Their enthusiasm is infectious: in Rio they soon got their local Airbnb host, yoga teacher Fabiana Gomes, attending sporting events she had never heard of before and cheering for unknown competitors.
"They have an hectic schedule, they go to all the table tennis and canoe slalom competitions, they even visit the countries' houses and have a few caipirinhas once in a while," said Gomes. "They're an inspiration to everyone, as they have aged gracefully and have a very active life."
At Rio 2016, Roland attended an opening ceremony for the second time in her life. The memories of Munich 1972 came flooding back as the athletes paraded and danced in the MaracanĂ£.
For his part, D'Archour, now 76 years old, says that when he goes back to Belgium at the end of the Games, he'll always remember the hospitality that Brazilians have showed him.
