Beach volleyball, marathon, football... Rio 2016 tickets available for up to US$15

Did you know that it's possible to watch some of the most popular sports at the Olympic Games for up to 50 Brazilian reais (15 US dollars)? Well, now you do, and with this in mind, Rio2016.com has selected five amazing events with tickets within this price category: beach volleyball, the marathon, sailing, water polo and football.

You can make your purchase at official ticket offices (see below for details) and the online ticket portal.

And remember: on Thursday (21 July) there will be a mega-release of 100,000 tickets, which will include every single sport, including for some sessions that were previously sold out, as well as the opening and closing ceremonies. “Super Thursday” is not to be missed.

Beach volleyball

The best beach volleyball players in the world doing their stuff against the backdrop of Copacabana beach: what more could you want? With an unmissable game schedule, there are still tickets on sale to a variety of matches from the group phase in the men’s and women’s tournament. Tickets are still going for up to R$50.

Marathon

The classic Olympic Games event will start and finish at the Sambódromo, the venue for the city’s legendary carnival parades, and it is still possible to be there. Both the women’s (14 August) and men's (21 August) races are scheduled to start at 9am local time, with tickets starting from $40 ($12).

Football

There are tickets for sessions of both the men’s and women’s football, which includes two matches at the Olympic Stadium. On 6 August, Brazilian football ace Marta and her teammates take to the field against Sweden. Before that, South Africa and China will go head-to-head. In the men’s, 4 August at 3pm, Honduras will take on Algeria and after that, it is the big game of the group phase: Portugal against Argentina.

Water polo

Brazil’s men’s team is one of the country’s big hopes for a medal and they will take to the pool at the Maria Lenk Aquatics Centre on the first day of action (6 August) in a big game against Australia. The night also includes a contest between France and Montenegro. Tickets are R$50 ($15) and the first match begins at 7:30pm local time. On 9 August, it's the women's turn, the all-conquering United States taking on Spain, and Brazil against Italy among the highlights. The ticket price is the same.

Sailing

Another idyllic backdrop will the setting for another event that is often hotly contested by hosts Brazil as well as Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand. The sailing competition will start from the Gloria Marina and take place in Rio’s Guanabara Bay, featuring views of Sugarloaf Mountain and Christ the Redeemer. There competition includes regattas of different classes taking place between 8 and 11 August with tickets starting from just R$40 ($12).
