Concentration, precision and aim. These are but a few of Archery’s prerequisites, a sport that is September special’s theme on the rio2016.com website. In this series of articles, you will get to know more about the sport that started as a hunting and war activity in the dawn of civilisation and you will understand how film and literature characters such as Robin Hood and Legolas, inspire young sportspeople.
The series will also show South Korea’s worldwide dominance while the sport renews itself in Brazil with archers becoming professionals. Readers will also get to know Zahra Nemati’s story. She is the Iranian Paralympic archer that made history in London 2012. And they will also see how Sambódromo, the traditional stage for samba schools parades during the Carioca carnival celebrations, is being prepared to host Archery events in the Rio 2016 Games.
September 2013 gathers the sport’s two main competitions. Last weekend (21-22), the Fontaines du Trocadéro, in Paris, hosted the FITA Archery World Cup finals. Now, archers prepare to compete in the World Archery Championships that will take place on 29 September – 6 October in Belek, Turkey. Brazil will have six representatives in the competition. They will be led by Daniel Xavier, from the state of Minas Gerais, and Sarah Nikitin, from the state of São Paulo.
Archery was chosen as September special’s theme through a survey on our Facebook page. Stay tuned and vote for our next special. The next survey will be launched in the next few weeks in our Fan Page!
