Simone Biles will make her Olympic debut this August, but the 19-year-old gymnast is unlikely to be a wide-eyed rookie. The teenager is already the USA's most successful female gymnast and the first woman in history to win three consecutive world all-round titles. The stage is set for Biles to be one of the stars of Rio 2016.
Since making her international debut at 2013 world championships, Biles has taken the gymnastics world by storm, winning 10 titles at three world championships and the hearts of gymnastics fans around the planet.

And the trend seems set to continue at Rio 2016. At this year's Pacific Rim Championships in Washington, her performance in the floor exercise featured music from the film Rio and some samba steps that are sure to endear her to Brazilian fans. “If the audience likes it, I’ll keep this routine,” she said.
Given the success of her samba routine, which earned plaudits from the public and judges alike, it is likely we will see it again in Rio.
In an interview with the IOC, Biles highlighted the importance of having support from the crowd: “The reaction of the public plays a very important role. It gives us an adrenaline boost, especially when people start to shout and clap their hands in time with the music. That really helps us to go on.”

Biles also revealed how two key moments shaped her career. The first was when she first witnessed gymnasts in action at Bannon's Gymnastix in Houston, aged six, and began to emulate their movements. A coach was alerted to her natural talent and the gym sent a letter to Biles’ parents encouraging her to enroll in classes.

But now a light had switched on for her: “Wow! I took part in a training camp with Kyla and Jordyn! Perhaps I can be there myself one day!” she thought.
And on 6 August, the day after the Rio 2016 opening ceremony, Biles will make her Olympic debut at the Rio Olympic Arena.
