By Rio 2016

RIO DE JANEIRO - To celebrate the end of 2007, which will always be reminded by Rio de Janeiro citizens because of the success of the Pan American Games and Parapanamerican Games held in the city, Rio de Janeiro City Hall prepares for New Year's Eve party. Besides Copacabana beach, worldly known as the main venue of New Year's Eve parties in Brazil, the inhabitants of Rio and tourists will celebrate the New Year on Ipanema and Barra da Tijuca beaches.

New Year's Eve in Barra, a district located on the west of Rio de Janeiro, which hosted most of the sport competitions of RIO 2007 and also hosted the Pan American Village, will be the venue where may popular music artists will perform, as well as samba school musicians on a stage on the beach. Also, there will a firework display, which will last 18 minutes.

"This year, Barra will have the greatest New Year's Eve party of history", says Bruno Matos, Riotur's Director of Operations (Rio de Janeiro Tourism Company).

In Ipanema, Riotur intends to put three stages, with all music styles: electronic music (station 8), samba (station 9) and MPB (10).

According to the organizers, the parties will have an ecological approach. Stages will be constructed with recycled material and solar panels will get the energy to be used in the event.

Shortly, Riotur will disclose the singers and bands that will perform on Ipanema and Barra parties. Copacabana's New Year's Eve party is still under development.

From 2006 to 2007, Copacabana beach received more than 2 million people, without major incidents, which shows the city is capable of organizing large events, efficient security and the spirit of order of Rio de Janeiro people and Brazilians.
