Brazil's footballers continue their gold medal quest against Colombia in the Rio 2016 Olympic Games men's football quarter-finals in Sao Paulo on Saturday at 22:00.

The hosts finally found their feet on Wednesday night, beating Denmark 4-0 to top group A after two nervous 0-0 draws.

Gabriel Barbosa scored twice to ensure that Barcelona superstar Neymar and the rest of the squad remain on course to win Brazil's first Olympic Games football gold medal at the Maracana on 20 August.

Had Brazil failed to qualify it would have been an even bigger shock than the failure of both London 2012 winners Mexico and Argentina, who triumphed in Athens in 2004 and Beijing 2008, to emerge from the group stage.

Colombia will provide a stern test, however, having finished second in group B with an impressive 2-0 victory over the previously unbeaten Nigeria at the Corinthians Arena.

The Colombians have the dangerous Dorlan Pabon, who had a brief spell playing club football for Sao Paulo.

Germany and Portugal meet at the Mane Garrincha Stadium in Brasilia at 13:00, ensuring that at least one European team will reach the semifinals.

The Germans will be confident given the presence of Nils Petersen and Arsenal's Serge Gnabry, the tournament's joint top scorers with five goals each. All Petersen's goals came in the 10-0 group C thrashing of Fiji.

Portugal have yet to lose and topped group D with seven points from Honduras, who ended Argentina's hopes of qualifying. Honduras now face the Republic of Korea at Mineirao in Belo Horizonte at 19:00.

Denmark, the third European team in the last eight, found Brazil too strong but will be more hopeful of seeing off Nigeria at the Fonte Nova Arena in Salvador at 16:00.
