2.300 days for the Rio 2016: the Organizing Committee prepares to receive the IOC Coordinating Comission

Exactly 2.300 days for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games on Monday 19th. And the Organizing Committee gets to this point preparing to receive, for the first time, the International Olympic Committee Coordinating Commission. The visit will happen in May, with the presence of the 18 members of the group. On the first meetings, held in January, just the president, Nawal El Moutawakel, and the executive director, Gilbert Felli, were present. “We have periodic meetings with the IOC, but the visits of the Coordinating Commission are a landmark to show the evolution of the work. We are building the organization of the Games and the lessons in planning are among the best legacy the event will leave behind”, says Rio 2016 Committee president, Mr. Carlos Arthur Nuzman. Besides receiving the IOC representatives, the Rio 2016 Committee continues the process of selecting the agency that will develop the Rio 2016 Games brand – in the beginning of the current month the public notice was launched for the selective process. In May, the entity will conduct an initial briefing to broach topics such as the Olympic Movement and Olympics values and also to receive the envelopes with the technical habilitation and qualification documents. In June, phases 3 (individual interviews) and 4 (technical briefing) of the process will be held. The world biggest sports fair would not be left out of the calendar. During the SportAccord, which takes place this month in Dubai, the Rio 2016 Sports Department will be meeting the International Federations to present the planning for the next months and reinforce the partnership for the projects development. THE LAST 100 DAYS – Besides getting to know the IOC Coordinating Commission members for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games and starting the elaboration process of the visual identity of the Games, the Rio 2016 Committee had a lot of work the last months. There were countless meetings with the three levels of government and conference calls with the IOC for new steps towards the first edition of the Olympic Games in South America. In February, Rio 2016 Committee announced its initial work structure. Odgers & Berndtson, which worked with Vancouver 2010 and London 2012, was contracted to select other executives for the Rio 2016. And a consulting gives services with the formation process of the organizing structure of the Committee. That same month, the first Progress Report to the IOC was presented during a session of the entity that preceded the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games. During the Vancouver Games, teams from Rio 2016 and the three levels of government took part on the Observers Program to get to know the organization of the operation of different sectors of the Games. In March, the Rio 2016 Committee formation statute was approved by general agreement from the Brazilian Olympic Confederations that took part on the Constitution Assembly. Before this validation, the statute was approved by the IOC. During this meeting it was also announced the members of the Fiscal Council, directory and of the Executive Council. Rio de Janeiro experience on the process of application as an Olympic Game city were partaken with the IOC on the debriefing organized by the entity in the beginning of April, in Lausanne, Switzerland. In the same month, as a part of the elaboration program of the visual identity of the Rio 2016 Games, it was held in Rio de Janeiro a workshop gathering representatives of the IOC and Rio 2016 Committee, the three levels of government, the Brazilian Olympic Committee and the broadcasting companies that retain the rights of transmission. The Rio 2016 Committee also kept close connection with the London 2012 Games Organizing Committee. In January, President Carlos Arthur Nuzman took part in meetings with representatives of the entity. In February, Rio 2016 Committee signed an agreement to implement the “International Inspiration” program, idealized by the London 2012 organizers, in Rio de Janeiro and other cities of the State.
