Former 100m world record holder Carl Lewis just took part in a speed-walking race at Copacabana Beach. He was up against US televison host Billy Bush and unconfirmed reports are saying he lost. The picture evidence doesn't look good.

Two Polish sunbathers chose this spot on Copacabana Beach so they could be close to the Beach Volleyball Arena.
"You can hear the cheers from here. The Brazilians are hyper people, just like the Polish," said Anna Leja, left.

Local beach volleyball favourites Agatha and Barbara are looking in ominous form on Copacabana beach, supported by a raucous crowd. They dispatched their Argentine opponents 2-0 in just 40 minutes.

BRITISH RIDER WANTS TO COMPLETE COMEBACK
William Fox-Pitt and his team are in action again today as the the British ride hopes to achieve gold just 10 months after being put in a coma.

Kosovo became a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) two years ago.
After her historic win, she thanked IOC president Thomas Bach: "A year ago he came to Kosovo and he said, 'I am here to support you'. Today he said, 'remember, we made a deal and now you realised it'. These words made me cry. I would like to thank him so much in the name of our federation and my country."
