LOVE IS IN THE AIR?
It's everywhere you look around the Deodoro Stadium, according to a Canadian TV journalist, who has tweeted that the venue's media manager has made an on-pitch marriage proposal to one of the Brazilian rugby sevens players. Incredible scenes! (The two loved-up girls already knew each other, by the way.)
ALL EYES ON THE COURT
When the USA men's basketball are in town, everyone's watching, including NBA star Carmelo Anthony who has so far been watching proceedings courtside. The USA currently enjoy a healthy lead against Venezuela in the second quarter.

JAPANESE MEN WIN GYMNASTICS GOLD
Japan have secured the gold medal in the artistic gymnastics men's team event, with Russia and China taking silver and bronze. They look rather pleased about it too.

HERE COME THE BOOMERS
Matthew Dellavedova has had a good summer. In June, he won an NBA title with the Cleveland Cavaliers and celebrated by riding a roller coaster.
On Monday, Dellavedova, who recently signed with the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks, had 23 points and 13 assists to lead Australia’s men’s basketball team to a 95-80 win over Serbia.
The Boomers are now 2-0 in group play for the first time in their Olympic history. Earlier in the tournament, Australia upset France 87-66.
Guard Patty Mills poured in 26 points in Monday's win while big man Andrew Bogut chipped in nine points and 12 rebounds.
Heading into the Rio Games, few pundits saw Australia as possible medal contenders.
"Rightfully so,” said Bogut, who has a habit of not mincing words. "We haven't done crap over the last 20-30 years of basketball. We've still got a lot of work to do but we don't really buy into the predictions too much."

TEARS OF JOY FOR RUSSIAN FENCER
Russia's Yana Egorian has beaten her compatriot Sofia Velikaya to win gold in the women's sabre individual. That's Russia's second gold of Rio 2016 and their eighth in total.

USAIN BOLT SIGNS PAIR OF SHOES GIFTED TO JAPANESE REPORTER
Japanese television personality Teruhide Takahashi received the closest thing he may ever get to an Olympic gold medal after he sat down and took off his sneakers before the start of a press conference hosted by the Jamaican national team on 8 August.
Tucking his feet below his chair, Takahashi looked up to see a pair shoes previously worn by Usain Bolt. They were a gift for him.
“Dream day,” he said in breathless English, staring wide-eyed at the shoes before trying on the pair of size 12s, slightly too big for him.
Red and black and very close to brand new, the shoes will return to Takahashi home in Tokyo where they will be displayed on a shelf instead of worn.
That wasn’t the only surprise. After several quick interviews with Japanese and Dutch reporters, Takahashi was invited backstage. He returned with even eyes than before, this time holding up the same shoe with a scribble in black marker. Bolt’s signature.

THE GIRL FROM THE CITY OF GOD CONQUERS THE WORLD
Almost 14 years to the day that City of God was released, a young girl from the favela featured in the film has won her country's first gold medal at its own Olympics.
A masterpiece from Rio 2016 opening ceremony director Fernando Meirelles, the film gave the world a glimpse into the grittier side of Rio de Janeiro. But Rafaela Silva's humble beginnings paid off.
She was tough. Preocupied with her spending all day on the street playing football with the boys, when Silva was seven her parents signed her up for judo classes. And we now know how that turned out.
Zeus must be smiling down on Rio this evening!

CHINESE DUO TAKE DIVING GOLD
Chen Aisen and Lin Yue have won the gold medal in the men's synchronised 10m platform to give China its fourth successive gold in the event. The Chinese pair finished ahead of USA divers David Boudia and Steele Johnson, while British hopes Tom Daley and Daniel Goodfellow took bronze.

'SHE'S A UNIQUE WARRIOR' - RAFAELA DA SILVA'S MUM
Zenilda Lopes da Silva was holding back the tears after watching her daughter do what she was unable to do four years ago in London.
After watching the judoka clinch gold, Silva's mother told Rio 2016: "It's not just because she's my daughter, but she deserves a lot. She's such a good, humble person. She bought tickets for everyone, family and friends. She had the T-shirts and hats made. She deserves it. She's a unique warrior. A golden warrior."
