Tonight, Oscar Schmidt has one objective. The legendary (and now retired) Olympic basketball player from Brazil wants to have his picture taken with Gisele Bündchen. He came wearing a No. 12 New England Patriots jersey — hello Tom Brady! — and Schmidt is eagerly waiting for his chance outside the muse's dressing room door.
"I'm sitting here waiting to see Gisele and take a picture with her," he said. "She is the most beautiful girl in the world."

TRAVELLING IN STYLE
Rio 2016's Mark Beresford has spotted a familiar face on his journey to the Maracana. He writes:
"It was an adventurous start to the festivities for one of the opening ceremony's directors, acclaimed film maker Fernando Meirelles. Opting to arrive at the Maracana stadium by metro, accompanied by his wife, Meirelles mixed up his stations and had to backtrack fast to make the event in time for the final preparations."

WHAT WE KNOW
Many details of the Olympic ceremony are, of course, shrouded in secrery. But there are a few things we already know.
For instance, the creative team behind the celebration have promised "to deliver a message for planet earth" with each athlete given a seedling to plant.
