FIRST BLOOD TO BRAZIL
Brazil have taken the first set 25-22. It looked like they might run away with that one there for a second but Italy came back hard to make them work for it. Second set about to start.

HOME STRAIGHT: MEN'S CROSS-COUNTRY MOUNTAIN BIKING
Julien Absalon, is doing his best to get back into contention but a fall earlier has left him way behind the leaders in seventh. Two laps to go and Czech Republic's Jaroslav Kulhavy has just crossed the line in same time as Nino Schurter from Switzerland.

VOLLEYBALL GOLD MEDAL MATCH: BRAZIL v ITALY
There are some big finals today but none more so than this. Volleyball is huge in Brazil and the men's team have been waiting patiently to redeem themselves for only bringing home silver from London. The Maracanãzinho is positively buzzing with expecation. Silver would be an achievement, but really, no one expect less than gold from the men in yellow.

BASKETBALL BRONZE FOR SPAIN
Spain have done it, wining the game 89-88 with a free throw in controversial circumstances right at the death.

CHAMPION PERFORMANCE
Defending champion Jaroslav Kulhavy won't be relinquishing his crown easily. With three laps gone in Deodoro, he is locked in a fascinating duel with Nino Schurter of Switzerland. Sagan is almost three minutes back and will have to kiss this dream goodbye.

BRONZE BATTLE GOES TO THE WIRE
It's a thrilling finish to the clash between Australia and Spain for men's basketball bronze. The two sides have matched each other shot for shot for the duration of the game. With a couple of minutes to go, Australia are currently leading 84-83.

Next up, Serbia will be trying to upset the all-conquering USA in the gold medal match.

SWISS ON A ROLL
Swiss rider Nino Schurter, no.2 in the world, is currently leading the mountain bike race as they come to the end of the second lap. Defending champ Jaroslav Kuhlavy is in the mix in third place. There are plenty of laps to go, but it looks like Peter Sagan is out of this one.

SAGAN IN TROUBLE
Road cycling legend Peter Sagan is in spot of bother on the Deodoro mountain bike course. The Slovak rider has to change a wheel. Challenging conditions out there; cold, wet, and not a bit like the tropical paradise riders may have been expecting.

CLIMB EVERY MOUNTAIN
Great scheduling this, only possible in the Olympic Games. From the sequins and glamour of rhythmic gymnastics we go straight to the muddy grit of mountain biking. The men's final is underway up in Deodoro. Names to look out for are France's Julien Absalon, Slovakia's Peter Sagan and the Czech Republic's defending champion Jaroslav Kulhavy.

RUSSIA WRAPS UP RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS
As expected, the gymnasts from Russia have won the final of the rhythmic gymnastics, pushing overnight leaders Spain into the silver position. There are a lot of Spanish tears at the Rio Olympic Arena right now, but they came mighty close to knocking the discipline's powerhouse out of gold. Bulgaria picked up bronze.

BASKETBALL'S BRONZE MATCH-UP
This game may be playing second fiddle to the huge final later today but that hasn't stopped it from being any less entertaining so far. Spain go in at half-time 40-38 up but Australia will take encouragement out of coming back from more than 10 points down.

GERMANY 31 POLAND 25
Handball's European champions triumph in this one. Taking the lead early on, Germany never looked like letting it slip.

The gold medal match between Denmark and France is at 2pm.

BRONZE TO THE USA!
What a final few rallies. USA maneged to keep the ball alive long enough to set up the perfect finish. Reigning Olympic champions Russia look distraught. They couldn't close this one out when they had the chance.

USA head coach John Speraw looks up to the heavens as his players flood the court around him. Amazing finish. Let's hope the final between Brazil and Italy at 1:15pm brings more of the same.

KIPCHOGE SPRINTS TO THE LINE!
Fantastic finish from Kipchoge who takes the gold in front of thousands of cheering fans at the Sambodromo, with a time of 2 hours 8 minutes 44 seconds. Lelisa gets the silver 1 minute 10 seconds behind him. Rupp finishes close behind for the bronze.

VOLLEYBALL: MATCH POINT USA
Three match points coming up for 'USA, USA, USA!"
