Sunday

Enjoying this music? It's being is performed by Barbatuques, who are trendsetters in body percussion and choral singing inside and outside Brazil. They just formed themselves into the Christ the Redeemer statue too, which looked pretty darned cool.

SANTOS TO START

Remember the famous Brazilian aviator Santos Dumont's spectacular appearance in the opening ceremony? Well the spirit of Santos is back at the Maracana this evening. The countdown to get this party started comes courtesy of a wristwatch. A very common item these days, but Dumont was actually the first man to wear one. He wanted something that allowed him to see the time while he was flying his aircraft.

AND WE'RE OFF... THE RIO 2016 CLOSING CEREMONY HAS BEGUN!

Bill Howells, Julien Howells and Noah Howells travelled from Oklahoma and Los Angeles to take in Rio 2016 to see beach volleyball. "Everything was perfect," they said.

HERE COMES THE RAIN

As this photo tweeted by Team New Zealand attests, it's a fairly wet evening in Rio for tonight's closing ceremony. But nothing could put a dampener on this party. After 16 incredible days, it's time for Brazil to celebrate.

MOVEMENT AT THE MARACANA

SEARCHING FOR ZAC

USA gymnast Simone Biles was one of the stars of Rio 2016 with four gold medals and one bronze, but she wants more. The 19-year-old is wondering whether actor Zac Efron, who she met recently and appeared suitably starstruck (in fact they both did!), will be in attendance at the Maracana.

BACKSTAGE HUDDLE

These colourful characters have been spotted backstage at the Maracana having a moment together before their big night on stage. Can you work out what role they might be playing in the closing ceremony?

LET'S MAKE THIS A NIGHT TO REMEMBER

The sport at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games sport has ended, but we still have one big event to go. The closing ceremony is coming up at 8pm at the Maracana stadium, and it promises to be a very special occasion.

Here's a sneak preview of what you can expect from the evening's festivities.

DURANT CAME TO PLAY FOR USA
Kevin Durant is on a tear. He cooly stroked a shot from the perimetre to give the USA a 52-29 lead heading into the half at Carioca Arena 1. Shooting an incredible 64 per cent  — including five for eight from deep — Durant's 24 points are nearly half his team's total and almost even with Serbia's team output so far.

TEAM DREAMS OF GOLD
Kevin Durant just destroyed the rim with a two-hand jam! He leads all players with 19 points to give the USA a 20-point lead over Serbia in the men's gold medal basketball match.

BASKETBALL GOLD MEDAL MATCH: USA v SERBIA
USA have been strong favourites for this ever since it was announced there would be an Olympic games in Rio. Just one NBA player in their ranks means a win for Serbia would be one hell of an upset.

The score currently stands at 33-20 in the second quarter. It's all chest thumps and hand slaps from team USA who, for one of the few times in this tournament, haven't started slowly.

NO GOLD FOR JOE
Britain's super heavyweight Joe Joyce didn't get his fairy tale ending that began with a late entry into the world of boxing and ended with a silver medal at Rio 2016. While the 30-year-old's career surely won't end here, losing to Frenchman Tony Yoka, who taunted him before the fight for being 'robotic', will leave a bruise.

The 22-year-old Parisian took gold with a exemplary defensive display and little else. He won two rounds by small margins and rarely took the fight to Joyce.

The British fighters downfall was a combination of his inability to open up his opponent, and his failure to protect himself from the few punches Yoka did throw.

FIRST-TIME FINALISTS DENMARK BEAT THE REIGNING CHAMPIONS
Denmark have held on to record a historic win against the reigning champions France. Never before have Denmark won a men's handball medal, and now they've just won gold by 28-26.

As well as a mighty defensive effort, their keeper Niklas Landin Jacobsen made some ridiculous saves to keep them ahead in the second half.
