ANOTHER HOLE-IN-ONE
Someone needs to check the golfing record books. After two aces in the men's event, and two by the ladies yesterday, Maria Verchenova of Russia has just hit a hole-in-one at the fourth.

Inbee Park of Republic of Korea still leads, -14, from China's Shanshan Feng on -11.

NOW FOR THE BIKE...
Carolina Routier was first out of the triathlon swim in 19 minutes. Pre-race favourite Gwen Jorgensen was 23rd out of the swim, 11 seconds behind the leader. Jorgensen's run is very strong, and as long as she stays in touch with the leaders, she has a very big chance to win.

SANTA WORKING THE OFF-SEASON IN RIO
The hospitality houses of each country have some quite random things in them. Most of those things center around local traditions and culture. So we're not quite sure what Finland House is trying to say here. Is Santa Claus from Finland? Is this a reference to Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, Finland?

Either way, he's there, and you'll have to go visit to see if he has a present for you.

LAST NIGHT
If you missed last night, this happened...

ANOTHER BADMINTON GOLD FOR CHINA
Chen Long has won Olympic gold in the men's singles final on his second attempt. The Chinese athlete walked away from London 2012 with bronze but has risen to the top of badminton's ranks since then, winning the last two world championships.

Malaysia's Lee Chong Wei will feel his time had come after earning silver at the past two Olympics, but another top Chinese player has rained on his parade.

GOOD LUCK FABIENNE!
Keep an eye out for the very inspiring Fabienne St Louis (race no.45) in the women’s triathlon. She’s been battling cancer since April.

She hasn’t been able to run much the last few months, and will have corrective surgery when she returns to Paris after the Olympics. The athlete from Mauritius decided to race no matter what. Organisers don’t know how if she will be able to race well, or if she’ll be able to finish, but say she wants to keep on fighting. Good luck Fabienne!

SWIM, BIKE, RUN - PART TWO: WOMEN'S TRIATHLON AT COPACABANA
The Rio 2016 women's triathlon will start in a few moments down at Copacabana beach. Gwen Jorgensen looms as the woman to beat. The American almost went two years on the World Triathlon series undefeated, and took the Rio test event title in 2015. But it wouldn’t be a complete shock if Jorgensen wasn’t standing on the podium this afternoon.

The women’s start list also holds four Olympic medallists, including all three from that epic race at the London 2012 Games four years ago: Nicola Spirig of Switzerland, Lisa Norden of Sweden and Erin Densham of Australia. Beijing 2008 bronze medallist Emma Moffatt of Australia is the fourth.

There are five ITU world champions: Jorgensen, Moffatt and Great Britain’s Helen Jenkins (who all have two ITU world championships), Non Stanford of Great Britain, and Norden. Then there is Andrea Hewitt of New Zealand, who has come close to a title five times, with five overall top three ITU world championship world ranking finishes. It is a 1.5km swim, a 40km bike, and a 10km run to the finish. This is going to be fascinating racing.

THERE'S STILL TIME TO GRAB A GOLD MEDAL
This may be the penultimate day of Rio 2016 but you can still easily get yourself a gold medal. Granted you'll have to pay for it. Close to Uruguaiana station in downtown Rio, Alex Silva can make anyone a champion. The 23-year old has been spending every day of the Olympics so sar selling medals. "I've barely seen any sport because I'm working the whole time. But I'm cheering from afar," he said.

IN CASE YOU DON'T KNOW HOW IMPORTANT THIS IS FOR MALAYSIA...
Lee Chong Wei had to make do with silver in the men's badminton singles at the past two Olympics. This could be his best chance yet at gold after defeating his arch nemesis Li Dan in the semis, though he has just dropped the first set in his final with Chen Long.

A win for Wei today would be Malaysia's first gold of Rio 2016.

Inbee Park now has a six-shot lead after sinking her third birdie in a row on the fifth. It's hard to see anyone catching her now.

BADMINTON: BRONZE TO DENMARK
Asia's monopoly over the men's singles badminton medals has been broken by Viktor Axelsen's bronze medal win over Lin Dan. The Chinese had won gold in both Beijing and London but was defeated convincingly by 2-1 this morning.

The final between Dan's compatriot Chen Long and Malaysian Lee Chong Wei follows now on court at Rio Centro.

BRAZIL GET ON THE PODIUM EARLY
The day's events have barely begun and Brazil have already gotten themselves on a podium with silver in the men's canoe double 1000m. Leading for much of the race, it looked like Erlon Silva and Isaquias Queiroz might win the host's sixth gold medal but, hopefully not in an omen of things to come, the German team was there to thwart their hopes.

Jan Vandrey and Sebastian Brendel, who defeated Queiroz in the men's single race, bided their time before powering past the Brazilians in the last 100m.

Queiroz has still made Brazilian history by winning the most medals of any Brazilian athlete at a single Games.

ALL TO PLAY FOR AT RIOCENTRO
Viktor Axelsen of Denmark has levelled a dramatic bronze medal badminton match at one game all. He's demolished Lin Dan 21-10 in the second game. What a tournament it's been. Deciding game to come! What can Lin Dan do to get back in this one?

GB PADDLER CLAIMS GOLD
It's been raining gold for Great Britain in Rio. In the first medal event of Saturday, Liam Heath has just paddled his way to glory in the 200m kayak sprint at Lagoa Stadium. Heath powered his way to the finish line in 35.197 seconds, 0.165 ahead of France's Maxime Beaumont with Spain's Saul Craviotto.
