GWEN IS PURE CLASS
American Gwen Jorgensen hits the after-burners 2km from the finish, leaving her closest rival Nicola Spirig trailing, and takes the Rio 2016 Olympic Games women's triathlon gold medal. Stunning effort. 1 hour 56.16. What an athlete. Spirig deserves great credit for her challenge, and takes silver. The swim and bike were gruelling enough. Great Britain's Vicky Holland beat her teammate Non Stanford to the bronze in a sprint finish.
BRONZE FOR NORWAY
The Norwegians have taken the bronze with a dominant 36-26 victory over the Netherlands in the women's handball third-place match. They were running away with it in the first half before the Netherlands mounted a comeback. But Norway's class shone through in the end as they again pulled away.

SPIRIG LEADS JORGENSEN, BRITISH GIRLS IN BATTLE FOR BRONZE
Great Britain's Non Stanford and Vicky Holland are fighting for a bronze medal in the women's triathlon, with Chile's Barbara Riveros close behind. Amazingly, Nicola Spirig of Switzerland, the defending champion, is still in with a chance to beat Jorgensen for the gold medal. In fact could we be set for another epic sprint to the finish, like we saw at London 2012. In which case, put your money on Spirig.
SERBIA PULLING AWAY FROM FRANCE
The Serbs are pulling away from France in this women's basketball bronze match. With the score now at 53-40, it looks like the Serbs will be getting their hands on their country's fifth medal of Rio 2016.
SPIRIG v JORGENSEN
London 2012 champion Nicola Spirig of Switzerland is daring to challenge American Gwen Jorgensen in the women's triathlon. If Spirig holds on to beat her, it would be an incredible achievement. Jorgensen is a fantastic, strong runner, and it will be very tough to stop her winning the gold medal here.
NORWAY STAMPING THEIR AUTHORITY
Norway are currently leading 23-17 in this women's handball bronze medal match-up. The reinging Olympic champions will be disappointed with their campaign, which has included two loses, but they look like they're making a statement here.

GO ON GIRLS, RUN FOR GOLD!
The triathlon has come down to a 10km run for the medals, as no one has been able to capitilize on the bike with a breakaway. All of them must compete with Gwen Jorgensen in a run to the finish and an Olympic gold medal. Challenge!

BIKE TO RUN TRANSITION
Much of the field look set to enter transition 2 (T2) at the same time, which means a flat out foot race for gold in the 10km run. All eyes will be on Jorgensen. Many of her World Triathlon series wins came when she ran through the field, negative splitting the 10km distance (ran the second half of the run faster). While she will be chasing gold, also keep an eye on the clock. Emma Snowsill’s 33:16 at Beijing 2008 is currently the fastest run leg in the women’s event at an Olympic Games. Jorgensen recorded 33:57 in the Rio test event last year.
LONDON 2012 CHAMPION SPIRIG LEADS
Reigning Olympic champion Nicola Spirig of Switzerland, known as one of the strongest cyclists in triathlon, is cajoling her rivals at the front. Spirig isn’t just likely to pull herself up, but plenty of others who manage to stick to her wheel. Spirig already lays claim to the fastest bike leg in Olympic triathlon history, with 1:03:54 at Beijing 2008, that helped to propel her into sixth spot. Spirig is in contention to take back-to-back gold medals – a feat that has never been done in women's triathlon.
SARAH TRUE CRASHES IN TRIATHLON
American triathlete Sarah True has got back on her bike after a crash, and is now far behind the rest of the field. She was down and in pain for a few minutes, and it will take a huge effort from her to get back into this race now.
CAN THE LEADERS DROP GWEN ON THE BIKE?
Strong race favourite Gwen Jorgensen is staying up with the main pack of riders in the women 's triathlon. Her rivals, including Flora Duffy of Bermuda and Non Stanford of GB, are trying their very best to shake her off. The best chance they have is to gain some time on her now. But Jorgensen is holding on. (Photo: Rio 2016)

BATTLES FOR THE BRONZE
The battle for the bronze medals are underway at the Carioca Arena 1 and the Future Arena.
Basketball: France v Serbia

Handball: Netherlands v Norway
Norway's women will be hoping to regain some pride after the world and Olympic champions were defeated by Russia in a semi-final thriller.
