A new world
Saturday

Niklas Suele scores for Germany, he really took that shot fast and painless.

No one has missed — yet.

Julian Brandt scores for Germany.

It's 3-2 for the visitors at Maracana.

Rafael scores for Brazil. We're tied.

Serge Gnabry takes the second penalty for Germany. He just squeezes it past Weverton though the Brazil keeper did get a hand to it.

Renato Augusto is here for Brazil. It's tense...

He scores. 1-1 on penalties.

Matthias Ginter lines up to take the first penalty for Germany... there is anguish on the faces of Brazil's players.

Ginter scores.

RIO 2016's KEVIN DARLING AT THE MARACANA

We will have penalties, and a groan of exasperation and apprehension greeted the final whistle. Brazil have suffered too many Olympic Games heartbreaks for their fans to be confident here. But let's not forget that Germany's men have also never won football gold. The pressure is on for both set of players here. In Neymar, it's Brazil who have the player with the most big-game experience.

DON'T FORGET TO BREATHE
Tied 1-1 after full time and then extra... we're going to penalties at Maracana.

MARTA BACK AT MARACANA
One of the greatest footballers ever, Marta takes in the men's gold medal match and poses for photographs with fans. Who wouldn't want to see her on the pitch tonight for Brazil.

RIO 2016's KEVIN DARLING AT THE MARACANA

Wonder if Usain Bolt likes penalty shoot-outs? It's looking increasingly likely he will be watching one soon, because Brazil cannot find that second goal despite repeatedly carving open the German defence. Neymar has been at the heart of everything good in Brazil's performance and his sublime pass picks out Felipe Anderson, but the substitute can only fire straight at goalkeeper Timo Horn.

THIS IS USAIN BOLT'S VIEW FROM THE STANDS AT MARACANA

Brazil responded well to that German equaliser and dominated the last 30 minutes, but poor finishing has cost them. Gabriel Jesus, Felipe Anderson, Luan and the substiuted Gabriel Barbosa have all missed good chances. While the fans will be anxious that the team don't come to rue that profligacy, Brazil are on top. They still believe.
