SPORT NEVER TEARS US APART
Brazilian Barbara Maia, 28 and Frenchman Guillaume Soutter, 26 are locked in love, but have a sporting tryst on the sidelines.  "It's more fun to enjoy the games together, but when our countries play each other, love is separate as we each support our national teams. We're enjoying every second."

FIVE SET EPIC IN MEN'S VOLLEYBALL
Italy and USA are slugging out a titanic contest in the men's semi-final of men's volleyball. It's 2-2 as the fifth set gets underway. USA were the Beijing 2008 Olympic champions. Italy beat USA 3-1 in their Pool A preliminary match on August 9, and are seeking their first ever Olympic gold medal. Italy won silver at Athens 2004 and Atlanta 1996.

CANADA WIN FOOTBALL BRONZE
Canada have held on against Brazil, and despite Beatriz's late goal, win the bronze medal in women's football. Christine Sinclair's composed second half finish is enough to clinch it 2-1. Great result for Canada. Heartache for the hosts, who have brought some great moments to the competition.

We're into added time at Corinthians Arena and Brazil are throwing everyone forward, but they have just three minutes to get that equaliser...

COMEBACK ON?

Brazil's women's football team have pulled one back against Canada - a neat volley on the turn from Beatriz making it 2-1 and giving the hosts hope of a bronze medal. Ten minutes to go at Corinthians Arena and the crowd are right behind the girls in yellow now.

CHINA 1, GB 1?

In the battle for second place behind the USA in the Rio 2016 medal table, third-placed China have already won one gold today, but Great Britain could be about to emulate them. GB equestrian rider Nick Skelton, and his horse Big Star, are currently leading the way in the jumping individual final.

BADMINTON GOLD FOR CHINA... AGAIN

Fu Haifeng and Zhang Nan have edged a thrilling men's doubles final, beating their Malaysian opponents Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong 23-21 in the deciding set. It's the second successive Olympic Games men's doubles title for Fu, while Zhang adds gold to the mixed doubles crown he won at London 2012.

CANADA CLOSE IN ON FOOTBALL BRONZE

Brazil's women have it all do it in Sao Paulo now. Christine Sinclair's composed finish has doubled Canada's lead with about 30 minutes remaining. It's 2-0 and the hosts need a Marta miracle now.

ITALY TAKE VOLLEYBALL LEAD AGAINST USA
It's gone semi-final crazy in Rio today. One of them is taking place in the men's volleyball tournament and Italy are looking good for a place in the gold medal match. They're up 1-0 and have a healthy lead in the second set.

BADMINTON MEN'S DOUBLES LEVEL
After Lin Dan's loss to Lee Chong Wei in men's singles earlier today, there is more pressure on China's men to win the doubles final. Malaysia's Goh V Shem and Tan Wee Kiong are playing China's Fu Haifeng and Zhang Nan for the gold. The Chinese pair have taken the second game and pulled the score back to 1-1.

CANADA 1-0 BRAZIL
It may be premature to say this, but it seems Brazilian national footballers don't respond well to the pressure of playing big tournaments at home. Deanne Rose has just put the Canadians 1-0 up against the hosts. Still plenty of time left of course for some heroics from Marta and co.

GERMANY MEDAL IN HOCKEY
The German women held on to beat New Zealand 2-1 and take the bronze medal in hockey. Later this afternoon, Great Britain’s women will be targeting a first Olympic gold medal in hockey against the Netherlands; an upgrade on their London 2012 bronze. Despite winning all their matches at Rio 2016 so far, including a 3-0 defeat of New Zealand in the semi-final, they will enter the final as underdogs against the reigning Olympic and world champions, who are eyeing their third straight title.

SYNCHRONISED SWIMMING GOLD FOR RUSSIA
As expected, the Russians have won team gold in synchronised swimming, ahead of China and Japan. That's Russia's fifth gold in a row at this always eye-pleasing discpline.

GAME ON RHYTHMIC GYMNASTICS!

Russian Margarita Mamun performs a brilliant ball routine in the ryhthmic gymnastics, and scores a 19.000 to go top of the leaderboard. Mamun, who competed for Bangladesh as a junior, placed second all-around to fellow Russian Yana Kudryavtseva at the last two world championships, but outscored her teammate to capture all-around gold at the final two world cup events prior to the Games. She also topped Kudryavtseva in the overall 2016 World Cup series standings.

BRAZIL AND CANADA PLAY FOR BRONZE
There's a great atmosphere in the Corinthians Arena in São Paulo, where the women footballers of Canada and Brazil are playing for bronze.

Still 0-0 but it's a free-flowing, entertaining match in glorious sunshine. Christine Sinclair has hit the bar. Everyone looks up for it, which is more than can be send about third place matches in the World Cup.
