JESUS MAKES IT TWO
Gabriel Jesus scores a second, and it is now 2-0 to Brazil against Honduras at the Maracana Stadium in the men's semifinal. Turns out Neymar's on 14 seconds was an Olympic record fastest ever goal. In the process of scoring, he collided with the Honduras goalkeeper, and seemed injured. Appears he was only winded. Brazil in control.

THE DREAM ENDS FOR CANADA'S MEN IN VOLLEYBALL
Canada have lost in straight sets to defending Olympic champions Russia in the quarter-finals of the men's volleyball competition.

Although they will be disappointed with the defeat, the Canadians will be proud of making it so far at Rio 2016, especially after they were the very last team to qualify thanks to a last-chance event in Tokyo two months ago.

"I wish we could have put a little bit more out there for Canada and for the fans that came here to support us and for ourselves," Blair Cameron Bann of Canada said. "I'm sure in a few days we'll look back and be happy with our tournament.

"Just qualifying was really big for our country. To do well and win some games here against some top-ranked teams, hopefully it keeps us going in the right direction — and we don't stop here, we keep going, keep improving."

FRANCE DUMP OUT HOSTS IN HANDBALL
France showed just why they are Olympic and world champions this morning as they overcame hosts Brazil who were buoyed on by passionate home crowd. The match ended 34-27 in favour of the French.

MO FARAH MAKES 5000m FINAL
Olympic and world champion 5000m and 10,000m runner, Mo Farah of Great Britain had to recuperate after another fall to make the final of the 5000m at Rio 2016. Farah famously came back to win the 10,000m at Rio 2016 after stumbling over halfway through the race.

Having successfully defended his 10,000m Olympic title at Rio 2016, Farah will hope to to conquer a "double double" with a victory on Saturday(20 August) adding to his golds in both the 5000m and 10,000m at London 2012.

"I wake up now and I just say, 'Look, the job ain't done yet'. I still have to recover, just lock myself in a room and just sort of get ready for this race," Farah said after his race today.

"It's possible (to win the 5000m) but you look at the guys, and these guys are ready for me. So I just have to get myself back in that frame of mind and get ready. But I'm still hungry and I still want it."

ISAQUIAS QUEIROZ THROUGH TO SPRINT CANOE 200m FINAL
Brazil's Isaquias Queiroz, who has already won a silver medal in the men's canoe single 1000m event, has just booked himself a place in the final of the single 200m after winning the first semi-final this morning.

The man from Ubaitaba (which means City of Canoes in indigenous Brazilian language Tupi-Guarani) can become the first Brazilian to medal twice at Rio 2016 tomorrow.

LIN DAN SETS UP SEMI-FINAL SHOWDOWN WITH RIVAL
China's Lin Dan has defeated Sikranth Kidambi of India 2-0 and will now face archrival Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia in the semi-finals.

The pair have met in the men's singles final twice, at Beijing 2008 and London 2012. On each occasion Lin Dan has walked away with the gold for China. Lee Chong Wei, if he is to claim Malaysia's first Olympic badminton gold medal, will have to overcome his nemesis and two-time Olympic champion in the semi-final.

VOLLEYBALL QUARTER-FINAL TIME
Canada and Russia go head-to-head in today's first men's volleyball quarter-final match.

HANDBALL ENTERS THE FRAY
Hosts Brazil have stepped onto the handball court against France in the first of today's men's quarter-finals.

ALSO ON AT THE GAMES RIGHT NOW
Aside from Badminton, we also have athletics, canoe sprint, golf and taekwondo currently in progress this morning.

Today is the first day of the women's golf competition. The sport has not had an Olympic champion since Margaret Abbott of the USA at the Paris 1900 Games. Earlier this week, Justin Rose of Great Britain became the first male Olympic golf champion since Canadian George Lyon who won gold at the St. Louis 1904 Games.

LIN DAN ON COURT
Double Olympic badminton singles champion, Lin Dan of China is currently on court against India's Sikranth Kidambi in the men's quarter-finals.
