ALL SQUARE AT HALF-TIME

Canarinhas are level with Sweden at half-time, in the women’s semi-final. Brazil’s women have been attacking, but Sweden are defending deep. Can Marta and Co. book their place in Friday’s gold medal match? The other semi-final kicks off later in Belo Horizonte, between 2012 bronze medalists Canada and three time Olympic bronze medalists Germany.

DUTCH DOMINATE THE WATER
What is it about the Dutch and the sea off the shores of Rio de Janeiro? Hours after completing a historic swimming marathon double, they've now added sailing gold to their collection.

Marit Bouwmeester triumphed in the women’s laser radial race, ahead of Ireland’s Annalise Murphy and Anne-Marie Rindom of Denmark

Super heavyweight boxing quarter-final number one is underway as Tony Yoka of France takes on Hussein Iashaish. Tune in to see these two big hitters.

BIG GAME: SWEDEN v BRAZIL
Team USA-slayers Sweden take on the home favourites at the Maracanã in the semi-final of the women's football tournament. It could be now or never for Marta, who is still looking for an elusive Olympic gold medal to add to her list of achievements.

BOLT STROLLS THROUGH HIS HEAT
Usain Bolt, Justin Gatlin and Yohan Blake all made it through their 200m heats in relatively easy fashion. Lashawn Merritt, the fastest man over the distance this year, also qualified in a time of 20.15.

The semi-finals are tomorrow at 10:00pm.

STEVENSON AGAINST THE WORLD: SLEEK AMERICAN PROGRESSES TO THE SEMI-FINALS
Shakur Stevenson has made the semi-finals of the men’s bantam weight 56kg after defeating Mongolia’s Erdenebat Tsendbaatar 3-0.

In moves more akin to fencing, Stevenson continuously lunged in with his far superior reach to jab away at the Mongolian, whose flurries of punches often found nothing but air.

The 19-year-old American from Newark is already being hyped as boxing’s new sensation and the man to end USA boxing's gold medal drought. With sleek performances like that it is not hard to see why.
