A new world
Tuesday

And Brazil are out! Lisa Dahlkvist is chased down by her team-mates after another unconvincing penalty finds its way into the net by way of the keeper's fingertips. 4-3

Brazil's final penalty... missed by Andressinha! Lindahl dives to her right to parry it away.

An early dive from the keeper gifts Nilla Fischer an open goal in which to slot the ball right down the middle. 3-3

Rafaelle for Brazil. Calm as you like! 3-2!

Caroline Seger does what her team-mates have yet to do and confidently finds the corner. Great penalty. 2-2

Andressa Alves fires low into the corner. Brazil lead 2-1!

Sweden's vice captain Lotta Schelin steps up confidently and finds the top corner. All square.

Cristiane for Brazil... it's SAVED! Hedvig Lindahl dives the right way.

Brazil have the first penalty. And it's Marta to take it. She missed in the quarter-final shoot-out. But SCORES here! Just. Her effort is very nearly saved.

WE HAVE PENALTIES AT THE MARACANA!

Brazil v Sweden for a place in the women's football final. Shoot-out coming up.

EXTRA TIME: FRANCE v SPAIN
The second quarter-final of women's handball between France and Spain has gone to extra time after an epic comeback from the French.

After a hiccup on the beam yesterday that left her with a bronze to add to her collection of golds, Simone Biles is today going for gold again in the floor exercise final. At the moment, she's sitting comfortably at the top of the leaderboard.

It's a hot day in Rio and fatigue has set in at the MaracanĂ£ stadium. The players are grabbing their final drinks before they try and draw on energy reserves to break the deadlock in extra time.

It is still all square at the MaracanĂ£, but Brazil are starting to press high up the pitch and Marta is looking dangerous as she relentlessly attacks the Swedish full-backs.

MASSIVE HOCKEY SURPRISE
Well maybe not so massive, as the Germans looked very vulnerable in their quarter-final against New Zealand. Still, few would have expected the four-time champions to suffer a 5-2 hammering from the unheralded Argentinians.

Can the Argentinians go one better than Juan Martin del Potro in the tennis? They'll be up against either Belgium or the Netherlands in the gold medal match on Thursday.
