CHINA UPSETTING THEIR HOSTS

Brazil are facing elimination from the women's volleyball tournament after China came from behind to take a 2-1 lead in the match. The Chinese currently lead 14-13 in a gripping fourth set. Brazil must win this one or they're out.

Robson Conceição became Brazil's first ever Olympic boxing champion amid a fervent atmosphere at the Riocentro arena this evening. The crowd was so fired up that even Brazilans judges were being treated like national heroes, as Rio 2016's Andre Naddeo reports.

A MAN WHO KNOWS WHO TO CELEBRATE...

That's Jamaica's 110m hurdles Olympic champion Omar McLeod, all right.

Following tonight's resounding victory, he said: "I can't get my mind around this. Is this real? To God be the glory. Now I'm going to eat as much ice cream and cake as I can."

And boy does he deserve those sugary treats.

CHINA LAUNCH VOLLEYBALL COMEBACK

Brazil's women's volleyball team have been pegged back by China in their quarter-final match at Maracanãzinho. Having cruised through the first set 25-15 and built a healthy lead in the second, Brazil relinquished lost focus and China ended up stealing the set 25-23. It's currenrtly 4-4 in the third.

OMAR McLEOD WINS 110m HURDLES GOLD FOR JAMAICA!

Another sprint race, another Jamaican victory. And the new track hero from the Caribbean is 22-year-old Omar McLeod. Sixth in the world championships last year, he has grown into an Olympic champion - winning the 110m hurdles final in a time of 13.05 seconds. Spain's Orlando Ortega looks almost as ecstatic about his silver medal, while France's Dimitri Bascou takes bronze.

A NEW HERO

Interesting fact. There is not a single athlete in tonight's 110m hurdles final who also appeared in the final at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Tonight, we will have three new Olympic medallists.

The final race of the night at the Olympic Stadium is a good one. The men's 110m hurdles gold medal will be settled imminently.

KIPYEGON WINS 1500m GOLD FOR KENYA!

Kenya's Faith Kipyegon timed her charge to perfection and powered home unchallenged as pre-race favourite Dibaba faded. The Ethiopian takes silver, while bronze goes to Jennifer Simpson of the USA.

DEREK JUMPS TO IT

Canada's Derek Drouin, the London 2012 men's high jump bronze medallist, has cleared 2.38 metres to become Olympic champion at Rio 2016. Mutaz Essa Barshim of Qatar has taken silver - the country's first medal of the Games - while Ukraine's Bohdan Bondrarenko claimed bronze.

CHINA WIN TABLE TENNIS GOLD

Now where have you heard that before? At every Olympic Games where they've had table tennis, is the answer. And the latest gold taken home by the all-conquering Chinese is the women's team title. Germany were the team beaten in the final this year.

A GOOD COACH ALWAYS FINDS THE RIGHT WORDS
Canada lost 2-0 to Germany in the women's football semi-final in Belo Horizonte earlier tonight, but head coach John Herdman put their chance in perspective, given the team's bronze medal at London 2012.

Brazil and Canada play at 1pm on 19 August in São Paulo. Germany and Sweden meet in the gold medal final at 5:30pm the same night at Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro.

CARRY THAT WEIGHT

A world record and an Olympic Games gold medal for Georgia's Lasha Talakhadze in the +105kg weightlifing. Give that man a high five. And maybe a hug. (OK, just the high five is fine.)

HIGH JINKS

The first event of the evening is the men's high jump, where London 2012 silver medallist Erik Kynard will be hoping to go one better in Rio.
